I do not know about those specific areas, but I was in Las Vegas recently and saw a news story about several immigrant families sharing an apartment to afford housing. There were at least 10 people living in a small space for the news story, in some apartments, many more.

If you are splitting high rent enough ways, it becomes affordable.

You do not have to be a US citizen or resident to buy real estate in the US. But please note that you are going to be taxed a minimum 20% tax as a foreign investor whether or not you make money off the sale of that home in the future. Also, just by buying real estate in the US does NOT guarantee or even entitle you to any type of legal residency status.

You can buy whatever you want in the US. It will not assure a VISA and you will pay more taxes on it then a citizen would. The Chinese own much of the west coast, and the brits are buying up FL at a fast rate.

Yes, you can purchase and own a real estate property in United States if you are not a citizen here or live here. If you are not buying all cash the qualification to get a loan for non USA residence is different. You need to check with your qualified lender or lender who lives works in USA in that regards.

USA is such a big country and the market of homes are much different from one location to the other, so I recommend that you do your search before you decide to purchase here. One good website to check the available homes in USA is ZipRealty.com They have a good website and their agents seem to be knowledgeable if you have questions.
